Randi Zuckerberg calls out passenger who made repeated lewd remarks on flight

TwitterFacebook

Randi Zuckerberg has alleged that a man seated next to her on a flight sexually harassed her repeatedly. But when she told a flight attendant, her complaint was brushed off.

Zuckerberg, CEO of Zuckerberg Media and sister of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, tweeted a letter she sent to Alaska Airlines’ CEO Brad Tilden, relating the incident.

Feeling disgusted & degraded after an @AlaskaAir flight where the passenger next to me made repeated lewd sexual remarks. The flight attendants told me he was a frequent flier, brushed off his behavior & kept giving him drinks. I guess his $ means more than our safety? My letter: pic.twitter.com/xOkDpb0dYU

Why this woman wants to make ‘upskirting’ a sexual offence in the UK

TwitterFacebook

Gina Martin was watching The Killers perform at a British music festival over the summer, when two guys kept hitting on her, and wouldn’t take no for an answer. What happened next made her launch a campaign to change the law.

“Then, I saw one of them looking at a picture of my crotch on their phone. They had done it to get back at me for turning them down,” Martin says.

Martin, 25, had just experienced “upskirting”—the practice of taking secret photos or videos under a person’s clothing without consent in an attempt to capture an image of their crotch area, underwear, and genitals. And, as Martin later learned, this practise is not legally classed as a sexual offence under UK law.  Read more…

Colin Kaepernick lands the cover of GQ in magazine’s first ‘Citizen of the Year’

TwitterFacebook

When Colin Kaepernick took a knee in protest of police brutality, it sparked a national conversation—one that has blackballed him from the NFL but is still echoing strong, as evidenced by GQ magazine.

It named the former San Fransisco 49ers quarterback their first ‘citizens of the year’ on Monday.

Kaepernick has remained silent throughout the majority of his activism (spare clarifying the intent of his actions). That’s made room for his protest to be interpreted in different ways, but rather than let “detractors will only twist your words and use them against you” as the GQ piece reads, the magazine invited Kaepernick’s friends, mentors, and former teammates to shed light on why the purpose of his protest should not be diluted over time.   Read more…

Trans woman beats ‘chief homophobe’ in historic Virginia race

TwitterFacebook

History was made in Virginia on Tuesday when a 33-year-old woman became the state’s first openly transgender elected official.

And to top off the momentous win, Democrat Danica Roem unseated a Republican incumbent who calls himself the state’s “chief homophobe.”

Roem, a journalist and metal-loving mom, beat out 26-year incumbent Robert G. Marshall, 73, for the House of Delegates seat that represents Prince William County.

The win had LGBTQ advocates — and Democrats seeking to turn the tide against Trumpian-style candidates — cheering.  Read more…

Harrison Ford: ‘We’ve got people in charge of important sh*t who don’t believe in science’

TwitterFacebook

Harrison Ford may be Hollywood’s most entertaining grumpy, old man. His penchant for blunt real talk, especially on topics he cares about, is downright refreshing.

Such was the case on Thursday night when Ford received an award from the environmental non-profit group, Conservation International. The actor used his acceptance speech that night to dish out some pointed criticism of Donald Trump and his misfit team of climate change skeptics.

“We face an unprecedented moment in this country. Today’s greatest threat is not climate change, not pollution, not flood or fire,” Ford said (via The Hollywood Reporter). “It’s that we’ve got people in charge of important shit who don’t believe in science.”   Read more…
