Ultimate dad Barack Obama accidentally plays matchmaker at campaign event

TwitterFacebook

Barack Obama is well-known for his dad behavior, particularly in the style department. On Friday, though, he achieved his most dad accomplishment yet — accidentally assuming two people were a couple.

The incident occurred during a campaign stop with Illinois gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker. The two visited Urbana restaurant Caffe Paradiso, where they drank tea (Obama paid) and met with constituents.

According to tweets from CNN political reporter Dan Merica, Obama asked two people he was chatting with if they were a “pair.” They reportedly did not answer right away — an ominous sign that they had perhaps not yet Defined the Relationship, or were, in fact, not dating at all. Read more…

Barack Obama shares touching statement on the death of Aretha Franklin

TwitterFacebook

Since news of Aretha Franklin’s death broke on Thursday morning, the internet has been flooded with memories, condolences, and tributes to the Queen of Soul.

Former president Barack Obama — who,  like many of us, has been moved to tears by Franklin’s music and spirit — shared an emotional note about her passing.

“[E]very time she sang, we were all graced with a glimpse of the divine,” Obama wrote.

“Through her compositions and unmatched musicianship, Aretha helped define the American experience. In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every shade—our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect. She helped us feel more connected to each other, more hopeful, more human. And sometimes she helped us just forget about everything else and dance,” he continued. Read more…

Look who stopped by @DogTagBakery for lunch today! Thank you @BarackObama and @JoeBiden for supporting our mission of empowering veterans with service-connected disabilities, military spouses, and military caregivers! #BakingADifference #veterans #milspouses #caregivers pic.twitter.com/bLHttsgXJF

Barack Obama says that ‘men have been getting on my nerves lately’

TwitterFacebook

Barack Obama has officially joined the countless women in 2018 who are annoyed by men.

On Wednesday, while speaking to leaders of the Obama Foundation in Johannesburg, South Africa, President Obama got real about the recent behavior of powerful men, admitting he’s straight-up annoyed.

Extreme same.

“Women in particular, by the way, I want you to get more involved,” Obama said in footage shared by CNN. “Because men have been getting on my nerves lately. Every day I read the newspaper, and I just think — brothers, what’s wrong with you guys? What’s wrong with us? I mean we’re violent; we’re bullying — you know, just not handling our business.” Read more…

While President Trump attacked the press and behaved generally poorly during his press conference with UK Prime Minister Theresa May on Friday, President Obama quietly announced a trip to South Africa and Kenya. He also released his summer reading list.

“This week, I’m traveling to Africa for the first time since I left office — a continent of wonderful diversity, thriving culture, and remarkable stories,” he wrote in a Facebook post. “As I prepare for this trip, I wanted to share a list of books that I’d recommend for summer reading.”

Break out your sunglasses, Pete Souza fans. The latest book cover has arrived and it’s a lot

On Wednesday, the former White House photographer, who is known for using his extensive Obama photo archive to clap back at Donald Trump’s every awful move, revealed the cover for his upcoming book, Shade: A Tale of Two Presidents.

As an ode to ~shade~ the cover shows our former president wearing some shades of his own. But not a pair of boring old sunglasses, or the beloved Obama-era Ray Bans — no, he’s wearing patriotic shutter shades. You know… the glasses Kanye West made famous during the good old Graduation days, when he wore them in the music video for “Stronger.” Yeah.  Read more…

‘Saturday Night Live’ wants Obama to do ‘Black Jeopardy’

TwitterFacebook

“Black Jeopardy” has become one of the most indelible sketches in Saturday Night Live‘s 40-plus-year tenure, and the cast and writers behind it want a shot with the man himself: Barack Obama.

“I think Obama would be a lot of fun on Black Jeopardy,” Kenan Thompson told Vulture in an oral history of the sketch. “I feel like he could do it. If we reached out and had a good enough idea for him, he’ll come do it.”

“Black Jeopardy” started in 2015 and has only been in five episodes of SNL, which seems shockingly low considering how amusing and salient the sketch is. Thompson, Michael Che, and Bryan Tucker discussed the origins and evolution of this sketch and all the ideas that might still make it on the air. Read more…

Barack Obama finally breaks his silence on immigration controversy, and it’s kind of a let down

TwitterFacebook

Former President Barack Obama finally weighed in on the ongoing debate over the separation of migrant children from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border, and it left a little to be desired for a few reasons.

In a post to Facebook Wednesday afternoon to mark World Refugee Day, Obama lamented, “And to watch those families broken apart in real time puts to us a very simple question: are we a nation that accepts the cruelty of ripping children from their parents’ arms, or are we a nation that values families, and works to keep them together?” Read more…

Kentucky graduate expertly trolls crowd by pretending a famous Obama quote was said by Trump

TwitterFacebook

Ben Bowling, this year’s valedictorian at Bell County High School in Kentucky, pulled off one hell of a senior prank during his graduation speech on Saturday. The 18 year-old read off a quote he jokingly attributed to President Donald Trump, as reported by USA Today.

“Don’t just get involved. Fight for your seat at the table. Better yet, fight for a seat at the head of the table,” he read, adding the attribution, “Donald J. Trump.” The audience of Kentuckians cheered him on, but those cheers quickly turned into a chorus of groans  when Bowling revealed he was kidding — and revealed the quote was actually from Barack Obama.  Read more…
