‘Black Panther’ writer Ta-Nehisi Coates will take on ‘Captain America’ next

TwitterFacebook

Captain America didn’t have such a great 2017, but his 2018 is off to a great start.

Ta-Nehisi Coates has already done incredible work with Marvel’s Black Panther comics, and now the journalist and author has revealed his next project: Captain America. His first issue — Captain America #1 — drops on July 4, 2018.

Coates discusses his new Marvel gig at length in a personal essay published by The Atlantic. He makes it clear he’s not leaving Black Panther behind, but the opportunity to also work on Cap was too exciting to resist. Read more…

The writer of ‘Catwoman’ knows exactly how bad ‘Catwoman’ is, thank you very much

TwitterFacebook

Over a decade before Wonder Woman, before Black Panther was even a twinkle in Kevin Feige’s eye, there was Catwoman – to this day, still the only Marvel or DC live-action movie led by a woman of color.

The problem was, it was terrible. So terrible, even its writer can’t resist the opportunity to drag it on social media.

It started when someone asked an inane question about why Catwoman hasn’t enjoyed the level of support that Black Panther has. If you think the answer should be pretty obvious to anyone who’s even faintly familiar with these movies, well, so does John Rogers. Read more…

‘Black Panther’ has the best Marvel supervillain ever. Yes, even better than Loki.

TwitterFacebook

Excited for Black Panther? So are we. Which is why we’re rolling out obsessive coverage with Black Panther Week.

Spoilers ahead for Black Panther.

Black Panther just pulled off a Marvel Cinematic Universe first: A supervillain worth rooting for.

Sure, other MCU baddies have been charming (hello, Hela) or surprising (hi, Mandarin) or sympathetic (we see you, Loki). A couple of them have even made good points – Zemo and Vulture’s grievances felt legitimate, even if their methods of rectifying them did not.

But Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger is all of those things, and something more besides. It’s a truism that every villain sees themselves as the hero in their own story; Killmonger is the first time this has actually felt true in a MCU movie.  Read more…

What the end credits scenes for ‘Black Panther’ mean

TwitterFacebook

Excited for Black Panther? So are we. Which is why we’re rolling out obsessive coverage with Black Panther Week.

Spoiler alert: This post contains major spoilers for Black Panther.

It’s a real tragedy that Black Panther had to end – the film’s so good, we wanted to keep it going forever. But at least it went out with a couple of parting shots.

We’re talking, of course, about the two end-credits scenes. One, which comes midway through, puts a final button on a storyline that’s been simmering throughout the movie, and lays the groundwork for things to come; the other may be hinting at big things for a certain character. Read more…

Director uses Twitter poll to ask DC fans about casting ‘Nightwing’ and it was kinda weird

TwitterFacebook

The former Boy Wonder needs your help, apparently.

It was announced not so long ago that a live-action Nightwing movie was in the works, with Lego Batman director Chris McKay at the helm.

For those of you unfamiliar with the project it is about the character of Dick Grayson — the original Robin who eventually breaks away from Batman’s frankly troubling habit of child endangerment to become his own superhero. You guessed it: Nightwing.

The film’s director Chris McKay delivered some news about the project on Twitter, followed by this slightly odd poll. Read more…

A new ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ TV spot is here to make the Super Bowl that much more super

TwitterFacebook

With apologies to the Eagles and the Patriots, the most exciting match-up of the day came in a commercial break during the Super Bowl.

Disney has unveiled the latest trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, which pits our beloved superhero team against Thanos – the giant purple dude from the end credits of the first Avengers in 2012.

He’s spent the past dozen or so Marvel movies trying to collect gemstones in the background, and now he’s ready to show us just what his giant gold glove can do. (Well, besides make him look like a fashion victim.) Read more…
