TwitterFacebook

Two of the five women accusing actor James Franco of sexual misconduct spoke to Good Morning America Tuesday about their experiences with him. Sarah Tither-Kaplan recalled specifics of Franco allegedly abusing his position of power as an instructor and blurring lines with sex scenes.

“A lot of the times they seemed gratuitous or exploitative,” she said.

Additionally, Violet Paley had a message for the Disaster Artist director: “Please just apologize,” she said.

When the women first shared their stories with the Los Angeles Times, Tither-Kaplan noted that Franco had reached out to her in October to apologize for making her uncomfortable with the aforementioned nude scenes. Read more…

Scarlett Johansson brilliantly called out James Franco during her Women’s March speech

TwitterFacebook

As one of the many women who began Time’s Up, the initiative advocating for women in all industries financially and otherwise, Scarlett Johansson was invited to speak at Los Angeles’ Women’s March—and she used her moment on stage to call out a number of issues, and one person in particular.

“How could a person publicly stand by an organization that helps to provide support for victims of sexual assault while privately preying on people who have no power?” Johansson asked before delivering the punchline to a not-so subtle dig.

Five women accuse James Franco of ‘inappropriate or sexually exploitative behavior’

TwitterFacebook

Five women have accused James Franco of sexual misconduct or other inappropriate behavior, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Four of the women were his acting students, and the fifth said he was her mentor.

Franco’s attorney denied the allegations, and pointed the Times to what Franco said on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday night, when Colbert asked Franco about the rumors.

“Look, in my life I pride myself on taking responsibility for things that I have done,” he told Colbert. “…The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate. But I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn’t have a voice for so long. So I don’t want to shut them down in any way.” Read more…

The 6 best moments of the Golden Globes (obviously including Oprah)

TwitterFacebook

It was bound to be a tense Golden Globes night in Hollywood after months charged with allegations of sexual misconduct and gender inequality – and perhaps for the better, Sunday’s awards ceremony steered more toward tame. This was a night about toppling the patriarchy, and the presenters and nominees either stuck to that or sat back and let others do the talking.

1. Sterling K. Brown’s speech

Brown has given a few stirring awards show acceptance speeches by now, and he delivered a tight, stirring response to yet another This Is Us win.  Read more…

Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill AND Steve Martin crash James Franco’s ‘SNL’ monologue

TwitterFacebook

James Franco started tonight’s Saturday Night Live monologue bummed that the show brass doesn’t do anything fancy for a host’s fourth time at the rodeo, like give him a Five-Timers jacket, or even write a script. (Humblebrag noted, Jimmy James.)

So instead, Franco took random audience questions. But one woman’s thoughtful and probing question about the actor’s career trajectory was overshadowed by an awfully familiar face poking around behind her.

If it isn’t longtime Franco friend Seth Rogen – who just “happened” to win the ticket lottery for the very weekend his buddy was hosting. “Luckily I’m a huge [musical guest] SZA fan so it worked out,” Rogen shared. Read more…
