Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups only follows 1 person on Instagram, and it’s brilliant

Reese’s talent extends far beyond creating deliciously addicting peanut butter-filled cups of chocolate. Turns out, the brand is pretty social media savvy, too.

A fan of the beloved candy company recently discovered that while about 100,000 people are following the brand on social media, Reese’s only follows ONE account on Instagram.

Who’s the lucky person? Well, here’s a hint: It’s an actress who has something pretty important in common with the chocolate.

On Sunday, Twitter user @julp discovered that the only account Reese’s follows on Instagram is none other than Reese Witherspoon — fiercely talented actress, producer, entrepreneur, and activist. Get it? Read more…

Forget immigration. Democrats and Republicans can’t even agree on where to get chicken nuggets (Wendy’s, duh).

A survey from Morning Consult published Thursday identified some of the most polarizing brands in America based on party affiliation. Brands that were once seen as studiously neutral have become explosively divisive. Even chain pizza, the last bipartisan cultural good in America, has found a way to step into the political ring. 

It’s a tragedy for chain restaurant aficionados everywhere. 

Morning Consult conducted 336,700 interviews over a period of three months. While survey results varied, Trump hotels was found to be the most divisive brand in America. Democrats and Republicans were much more likely to agree on hotly contested brands like NASCAR, which only has a 20 point spread, and Halliburton — the brand behind the Deepwater Horizon scandal — which has a 22 point spread. Tide Pod craze shows there’s such a thing as bad publicity

It’s the year 2018 and every advancement in our society has been stifled by the consumption of Tide Pods. 

The desire to eat a laundry pod—specifically Tide’s detergent product, packaged in plastic dissolvable packets—has taken over the internet for better or for worse. It’s popped up on pizzas and been recreated as edible donuts, and tweets regarding the consumption of the pods have gone viral countless of times. YouTube even started pulling videos of people eating them (please, for the love of laundry, don’t eat Tide Pods). 

Brand awareness has probably never been higher for Tide than it is today, but the whole idea that “there’s no such thing as bad publicity” doesn’t quite work in the age of the internet anymore—and whether or not the 7-year old product will survive is unknown. So what’s Tide to do next?  Read more…

Our sympathies are with the Tide social media manager.

As teens participate, pretend to participate, and talk about participating in the Tide Pod Challenge, the official Tide Twitter account has assumed the unofficial role of emergency services referral center. 

In the past few days, @Tide has responded to five people claiming to have ingested Tide Pods. Tide Pods, of course, are not safe for consumption, despite looking extremely delicious and starring in a wildly popular meme.

Jimmy Choo pulls Cara Delevingne ad after online backlash

For some reason Jimmy Choo thought the end of 2017 would be the perfect time to release an advertisement showing model Cara Delevingne getting catcalled while walking through a city with sparkly boots on.

It wasn’t.

Following serious online backlash, Jimmy Choo pulled the “Shimmer in the Dark” ad on Friday, deleting both the YouTube video and tweet that showed the video.

The ad showed Delevingne wearing a sequined red mini dress and black booties that appeared to be covered in rhinestones. As she walks the sidewalks at night she’s met with several whistles, long stares, and nods — you know, classic elements of catcalling that so many women deal with on a daily basis. Read more…
