‘Black Panther’ writer Ta-Nehisi Coates will take on ‘Captain America’ next

Captain America didn’t have such a great 2017, but his 2018 is off to a great start.

Ta-Nehisi Coates has already done incredible work with Marvel’s Black Panther comics, and now the journalist and author has revealed his next project: Captain America. His first issue — Captain America #1 — drops on July 4, 2018.

Coates discusses his new Marvel gig at length in a personal essay published by The Atlantic. He makes it clear he’s not leaving Black Panther behind, but the opportunity to also work on Cap was too exciting to resist. Read more…

The Last Jedi was a whole lotta movie, and now it’s going to be a whole lotta awesome comicsMarvel is set to adapt the latest Star Wars film into a six-part print comic featuring “never-before-seen” new content.

In its final season, The Walking Dead is showing no mercy – but what else is new?

On Sunday night’s episode, we learned that Carl Grimes took a severe bite to the abdomen and his death is imminent. Carl, played by Chandler Riggs, has been on the show since Season 1 – the only character besides Rick who’s been around for that long. Riggs told The Hollywood Reporter that Carl is “definitely” at his end, halfway through Season 8.

Yes, Miles Morales technically exists inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But the other Spider-Man hasn’t made an appearance in any of those movies, and he hasn’t ever gotten one of his own. Until now.

Sony’s first trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse premiered on Saturday at Brazil Comic-Con, starring Morales as the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler. Marvel originally introduced the character in the “Ultimate” line of comics; in that alternate timeline, Morales — a black, Latino teen from Brooklyn who was also bitten by a radioactive spider — dons the famed red-and-blue underoos after Peter Parker is killed by the Green Goblin. Cartoon character Snagglepuss has his own comic, and he’s officially gay

After years of speculation, it’s finally been confirmed: The classic and beloved cartoon star Snagglepuss is officially gay.

This may come as a shock to some, if they haven’t really looked into the life of the big, pink mountain lion who pals around with Huckleberry Hound & Co., but those in his inner circle have known for a very long time.

Mark Russell, who is writing a new DC comic book series based on Snagglepuss’s life — Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles is available January 3 —  delivers a pretty clear picture of what’s going on here. “Lila Lion is his beard, and he does have a boyfriend in his private life.” Read more…

I’ve put Gerard Way — former My Chemical Romance frontman, current comic book writer — on a pedestal for about 13 years. He seemed a genius, an impossibly aloof icon. 

But in real life? He’s just a nice dude who is mildly insane and makes weird, good sh*t.
